Yesterday I talked about why chronic injuries stall — the inflammatory response gets stuck, blood flow drops, and tissue remodeling never kicks in.

Today let’s talk about the single most researched peptide for fixing all three of those problems.

BPC-157 (Body Protection Compound-157) is a 15-amino-acid peptide originally isolated from human gastric juice. Your body already produces it in small amounts to protect and repair the gut lining. Researchers started asking: what happens when you introduce it systemically to other damaged tissue?

The answer, across dozens of animal studies: a lot.

Here’s what the data shows:

  • Angiogenesis: BPC-157 upregulates VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) and promotes the formation of new blood vessels in damaged tissue. A 2018 study in Current Pharmaceutical Design showed significantly accelerated blood vessel growth in transected Achilles tendons.

  • Tendon and ligament repair: Multiple studies show accelerated healing in tendons, with improved collagen organization and higher tensile strength at the repair site compared to controls.

  • Gut-brain axis effects: BPC-157 interacts with the nitric oxide (NO) system and the dopaminergic system, which may explain why some users report improved mood and reduced anxiety alongside physical recovery.

  • Inflammation resolution: Rather than simply suppressing inflammation, BPC-157 appears to help the body transition through the inflammatory process faster — which is exactly what we talked about yesterday.

The big caveat:

Most BPC-157 research is in animal models. We don’t have large-scale human clinical trials yet. That said, the anecdotal evidence from the biohacking and sports medicine community is extensive, consistent, and largely lines up with what the animal data predicts. Thousands of people have used it for everything from rotator cuff injuries to gut issues to post-surgical recovery.

Common research protocols typically run 250–500mcg once or twice daily, administered subcutaneously near the injury site, for 4–8 weeks. Some people also run it orally (especially for gut-related protocols) with good results.

Tomorrow I’m going to show you the full “3-layer recovery stack” — how BPC-157 fits alongside two other critical inputs (sleep and nutrition) that most people completely ignore when they’re trying to heal.
